This Tuesday (tomorrow) we are proud to welcome
Anderson Valley Brewing Company back to South Carolina! Starting at 5pm we will be filling growlers of their Hop Ottin’ IPA; Summer Solstice; Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout; and Brother David’s Triple! American Craft Beer Week FREE Thursday Tasting! (5/17)
In honor of
American Craft Beer Week, we will taste four beers which are inexorably linked to the American craft beer tradition for this FREE Thursday tasting! Though we in America have borrowed heavily from other brewing traditions around the world, there are at least a few things in the beer-o-sphere that we can point to as our own. For this journey into the heart of American craft brewing we will taste: Smuttynose IPA (though originally an English style, American hops are the defining feature of this type of beer); Anchor Steam Beer (one of America’s only truly home-grown beer styles); Bell’s Oberon (the archetypal American wheat ale); and Widmer Brothers Barrel Aged Brrrbon (what say’s “America” more than bourbon?).

Drop in anytime this Thursday (5/17) between 5pm and 7pm as we sample our way through these four great American craft brews!

April 30th, 2012

Greetings Friends!

Lady of the Woods Rare Beer Tuesday (5/1)
For this this week’s Rare Beer Tuesday feature we are excited to be able to bring you a thirst quenching treat all the way from Nantucket, Massachusetts! Part of Cisco Brewing Company’s "The Woods" project, Lady of the Woods is a sour golden ale that has spent time aging in oak barrels. Boasting notes of lemon zest, chamomile, vanilla and pineapple, Lady of the Woods possesses a refreshing tartness that brings to mind adult lemonade, or even a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Perfect for the warming weather, the Lady will go on tap tomorrow (5/1) at 5pm for growler fills!

Biere de Garde FREE Thursday Tasting (5/3)
The French make world-class beer! That’s right, though typically known for their wine-making prowess, the French actually have a beer style all their own! Biere de Garde’s, or "beers for keeping" are typically strong, malt driven beers with layers of complexity that also have excellent drinkability!

Drop in anytime between 5pm-7pm this Thursday (5/3) as we sample our way through four Biere de Garde’s including: Duyck Jenlain Blonde; Thiellier La Bavaisienne Blonde; St. Sylvestre 3 Monts; and Lakefront Rondezvous! Like all of our tastings, this one is 100% FREE!

A Peanut Butter and Jelly Cask Event Reminder!

April 27th, 2012

Hello Beer Fans!

This is just a quick reminder about a very special cask event/tasting we are holding tomorrow (4/28)!

Sweetwater Nuttin’ Butter Cask Event (4/28)
This Saturday (tomorrow!) we will be tapping our very own award-winning cask creation of Nuttin’ Butter! The winner of last month’s
Sweetwater Brew Your Cask Off Festival, Nuttin’ Butter is a brown ale that has been engineered to be the beer equivalent of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in a glass (grape jam and all)! The cask will be tapped at 1pm, and we will offer FREE samples of the cask from 1pm-3pm, as well as growler fills all day (or as long as it lasts!). Supplies are very limited, and this decadent treat is sure to go quick! We recommend that you arrive as close to 1pm as possible to ensure you get your fill!

Special note about cask beers:
If you have never been to one of our special cask ale releases before, it is beer in its purest form: conditioned in the cask and free of force carbonation, filtration or other processing.  Real cask ales allow the beer to showcase more nuances of texture, flavor and aroma than their normally kegged counterparts.  Unlike our regular growler fills, cask ale is highly perishable and must be consumed the same day, so plan accordingly!

O’Dempsey’s Your Black Heart Russian Imperial Stout

April 23rd, 2012

Hello Beer Fans!

We have three very exciting events happening this week, so read on to make sure you don’t miss a thing!

A New Belgium Jared’s Ale Rare Beer Tuesday/Tasting (4/24)
For this week’s Rare Beer Tuesday we are proud to welcome both Alex Johnson and Jared Burton of
New Belgium Brewing Company into The Greenville Beer Exchange! The recent winner of the in-house New Belgium Loose Lips contest, Jared Burton was let loose upon the New Belgium brew-house to create a beer of his own imagination. The result is an 8% ABV smoked porter brewed with peaches. Only available on draft in select markets, this exceptionally unique beer, Jared’s Ale, promises to be quite the drinking experience! We are fortunate enough to have a keg of this rarity (as well as the man who made it on hand to answer well phrased inquiries).

We will be tapping Jared’s Ale at 5pm this Tuesday (tomorrow), and we will be offering FREE samples of it from 5pm to 7pm as well! And if that wasn’t enough, we will also be giving away New Belgium globe glasses with select purchases!

Belgian-American FREE Thursday Tasting (4/26)
What happens when Belgian-style yeast and other Belgian influenced ingredients are used to produce traditionally non-Belgian beer styles? What happens when Belgian brewers use newly bred American hop varieties? We will attempt to answers all of these fascinating questions and more during this week’s FREE Thursday beer tasting!

Drop in anytime between 5pm and 7pm this Thursday to sample four beers that reflect either styles of beer which are traditionally non-Belgian, but have been brewed with Belgian inspiration or Belgian beers made with new world ingredients! For this in exploration we will taste: Green Flash Le Freak; Great Divide Belgian Yeti; Brassiere d’Achouffe Houblon Doubbelen IPA Tripel; and Stone Cali-Belgie

April 9th, 2012

Hello Beer Fans!

Freudian Slip Rare Beer Tuesday (4/10)
For this week’s Rare Beer Tuesday we are proud to bring you another offering from the infamous phantom brewery
Evil Twin! Brewing its beers at numerous brew houses around the world, Evil Twin does not have a facility to call its own, but the beers produced by this gypsy brewery are unparalleled in flavor and complexity. Freudian Slip was brewed at Westbrook Brewing Company in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and is an American Barley Wine that is a virtual essay on the style. Clocking it at a massive 10.3% ABV, Freudian Slip boasts notes of leather, orange, pine, sherry and is framed by layers of toffee and caramel, as well as a solid hop bite.  We will be tapping this gem tomorrow (4/10) for growler fills. Be here to get yours!

A Kolsch FREE Thursday Beer Tasting (4/12)
The temperature is getting warmer, and we thought it might be time to sample some beers of the more refreshing variety.
Kolsch is a style that originated in Coln, Germany and is typically golden and crisp with a complex fruitiness. Sharing qualities found in both ales and lagers, Kolsch’s are perfect for sunny afternoons in the lawn or by the pool.

This Thursday we will sample four examples of the Koslch style, two from Coln and two from America. We will taste: Reissdorf Kolsch; Gaffel Kolsch; French Broad Gateway Kolsch; and COAST 32/50 Kolsch.  Drop in anytime between 5pm and 7pm this Thursday (4/12) to discuss this wonderful style and sample these four brews for absolutely FREE!

La Folie Rare Beer Tuesday, A Stout & Porter FREE Thursday Tasting and More!

April 2nd, 2012

Hello Beer Fans!

La Folie Rare Beer Tuesday (4/3)
New Belgium Brewing Company may be known for their flagship beer Fat Tire, but among sour beer fans La Folie is held in the highest regard. Fermented with acid producing bacteria and wild yeast then aged anywhere between one and three years in gigantic French Oak barrels, La Folie is a virtual essay on the Flanders Red Ale style. It boasts notes of tart pie cherry, green apple, caramel, vanilla, balsamic vinegar and more! For this week’s Rare Beer Tuesday we will be tapping a keg of the 2012 vintage of this sour treat! Supply of this enamel eater is limited, so we recommend getting here at 5pm when the keg is tapped to ensure you get your fill!

Stout vs Porter FREE Thursday Tasting (4/5)
Even the most educated dark beer enthusiasts will debate the difference between a traditional stout versus a traditional porter- both are dark, roasty and have their origins in the English brewing tradition. These debates can get quite heated, and due to their proximity to alcohol, physical altercations have even been reported to break out during such disputes. To help alleviate any potential violence, we are diving head first into the world of stouts and porters for this week’s FREE Thursday beer tasting!

For this endeavor we will taste: Lakefront Snake Chaser (an Irish-style stout); Terrapin’s Moo-Hoo (a stout brewed with lactose and cocoa); Fuller’s London Porter (a classic English porter); and Foothills People’s Porter. Drop in anytime between 5pm-7pm this Thursday to sample these two stouts and two porters for absolutely FREE, and hang out as we attempt to illuminate the dark recesses of this age-old debate!

A Beer vs Wine Showdown at the American Grocery (4/9)

American Grocery for a knock-down, drag-out, no-holds-barred Beer vs Wine dinner that will challenge all pre-conceived notions of what a night of fine food and beverage can be! Ron and the Beast Ryan Rare Beer Tuesday and a Samuel Smith FREE Thursday Tasting!

March 19th, 2012

Hello Friends and Fans of Beer!

Ron and the Beast Ryan Rare Beer Tuesday (3/20)
For this week’s Rare Beer Tuesday feature we are proud to bring you the ultra-funkified Ron and the Beast Ryan from Evil Twin Brewing Company!  A phantom brewery, Evil Twin produces its beers at high pedigree brewing facilities around the world, and this particular batch of Ron and the Beast Ryan was produced at South Carolina’s own Westbrook Brewing Company! The beer itself is at heart a Belgian-style Saison- golden, dry, spicy and herbaceous. To liven things up, this beer was also fermented with Jolly Pumpkin’s proprietary strain of brettanomyces! The resulting beverage boasts layers of lemon zest, bubblegum, green bell pepper and pine. This complex “beast,” if you will, is not to be missed! Make sure to be here at 5pm tomorrow (3/20) when this keg is tapped to get your fill!

A Samuel Smith FREE Thursday Tasting (3/22)
For this Thursday’s FREE beer tasting we have decided to feature an English brewery that dates itself back to the 18th century, is still family owed, and ferments the majority of its beers in gigantic slate stone squares! Samuel Smith’s Old Brewery has been producing some of the best English ales to be sold on the American market for decades, and this Thursday we will taste through four of our favorites from this awesome producer! We will taste: Samuel Smith Stingo (an oak barrel aged barleywine-style ale); Samuel Smith Imperial Stout; Samuel Smith Organic Raspberry Ale; and Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout!
